contents: sparrow faces off with the young man from the lake memory, both of them pumped up and excited. what follows is some bizarre form of a cock fight, but one that the creatures are just as enthusiastic about as the two humans. Sparrow's creature is a 'Piplup' nicknamed 'Arlen', and the boy's is a 'Turtwig'. for such small things, the Pokemon are pretty damn strong and Sparrow and the boy are dodging moving to avoid getting in the way of the battle. she and Arlen win easily, but other than good-natured grumbling, the boy and Turtwig take the loss gracefully.
her and the boy's names are obscured.
effects: ● +30 animal affinity
● much more interested in friendly competition
● positive that the boy is a very dear friend to her

content: Sparrow is walking through a city (and is right across from a bizarre looking building with flimsy trees in front of it), and is approached by a really classy lady with long blonde hair, who strikes up a conversation with her. the lady is familiar with whoever gave Sparrow her "Pokédex", and is also a Trainer!! she gives Sparrow some verbal encouragement, and then gives her a HM to let her Pokémon cut through trees, to help her fill the Pokédex! the lady then leaves, asking Sparrow to give her regards to the Professor.
all names are still obscured.
effects: ● holy shit that's a really beautiful lady
● wowow she's friendly and confident and helpful!!
● +50 homolust
● the start of a huge crush, if anyone who sees it recognizes the telltale dokis and blushing

contents: Sparrow is in a very dark cave, rummaging in her bag until she finally pulls out a case with weird little biscuit things in it. she shakes a red one out and then stands up with a smile and looks up at... this Pokemon. it's over twenty feet in length and looks pretty fucking intimidating, but Sparrow is not afraid in the slightest and pats its golden nose... thing affectionately before offering it the Poffin. it eats the treat right out of her hand and makes a low screechy noise of content before bumping the flat of its golden head thing against her in a weird ass nuzzle.
it looks distinctly cooler than it did a few seconds ago...
the Pokemon is clearly thought of with the name "Giratina".
effects: ● even less animal/creature fear than before, holy shit
● some pokemon eat poffins!!
● giratina is totally cute and precious wowowowow
● my helldragon is the cutest thing ever

content: Sparrow is on a stage with rose creature along side her. Sparrow herself is in a fancy dress and the Pokemon, Roselia, has some spiffy accessories on and the both of them are brimming with excitement and energy. Sparrow guides him into elegant displays that get the crowd cheering and watch their rivals try to out do them. despite being the in the background compared to Roselia, Sparrow is still thrilled to be on stage with him, and when the Contest wraps up, they're declared the winners. she could burst with pride and joy as they receive their ribbons, and throws her arms around the Roselia and hugs it.
effects: ● i do some cool performing/competing with a Pokemon called Roselia
● we're really damn good!!
● being on stage makes me really happy!
● i like friendly competition!!

content: the memory isn't terribly long; Sparrow is walking through a forest, the trees so dense only little patches of sunlight shine down, when something resting in her bag starts to shake. she takes it out, revealing it to be a red and blue patterned Egg, and holds onto it gently until the shell breaks open. after brushing the loose shards away from the small creature that had hatched, it opens its eyes, blinks a few times, and then focuses on Sparrow's face.
it beams with delight and waves its stubby arms excitedly, then snuggles into her arms cozily. the entire time, Sparrow is giddy and excited and just as happy as the little Pokemon the entire time.

content: a young man about Sparrow's age (and familiar, if one has seen some of her earlier memories) prepares to bolt into tall grass. Sparrow doubts this idea will go well, but knows better than to try to talk him out of it and decides to run into the grass with him despite her reservations - the tall grass is dangerous, and she would sooner go with him than let him do something dangerous alone.
before either of them can so much as take a step, a very stern voice shouts for them to stop and the both of them freeze and quickly turn to face the speaker. an older man with white hair quickly approaches them (the blond boy quickly backs up to stand by Sparrow's side) and stares them down while reminding them that they were about to do something incredibly dumb. the old man is intimidating, and she has the feeling that he's a person who is very hard to fool. the three of them ellipse for a moment, not saying a word, before the boy turns to whisper to her about who the old man is: Professor Rowan, who she immediately knows is a Pokemon Professor. she's surprised that such a famous researcher is in the area, and a little pleased. if he's here, they won't need to go looking for him to get Pokemon! talk about convenient.
Rowan paces and mutters for a bit about why Sparrow and her friend were willing to go into the dangerous tall grass: they wanted Pokemon partners of their own! he muses that their worlds would change if they met Pokemon and wonders if he should set them on that path to change before abruptly turning and striding up to them to ask if they love Pokemon.
"Yes. I love Pokemon!"
Sparrow doesn't hesitate to answer, full of certainty. she loves Pokemon with all her heart, and the boy is quick to agree with just as much fervor. the Professor asks them the same question, and Sparrow feels faintly irritated - they just answered him, didn't they? this time it's her companion who blurts their answer: that no matter how many times they're asked that question, the answer will always be that they truly love Pokemon.
Rowan's face is hard to read as he quietly comments on what they were about to do, and that it concerns him to think of what such reckless people would do with Pokemon. Sparrow's heart drops and she swallows hard. is he going to refuse to introduce them to Pokemon of their own because of their recklessness? what kind of life would they live without Pokemon at their sides?
then, the boy tries to take all the blame for their attempt onto himself, insists that Sparrow should receive a Pokemon still; she feels a surge of fondness and affection for him, but knows she can't do that. the two of them are an all or nothing deal, and she wouldn't forgive herself if she let him take all the blame. it was his idea, but she was willing to go along with it, so they should both be punished if the Professor decided to. so, she punches him, hard, in the side for his dumb, noble attempt.
at the boy's words, Rowan's opinion of them seems to change. he'll entrust them with Pokemon after all, he says, and apologizes for putting them through that test before asking them to promise that they will not recklessly endanger themselves again. she thinks he's a bit like a grandfather now, looking after hotblooded young people.
Rowan puzzles over where something is until a boy in a snazzy red beret runs up behind him with a briefcase he left behind. the new boy starts when Rowan explains that he plans to give Sparrow and her friend their own Pokemon and says something about the Pokemon they brought with them being crucial. it makes the blond boy happy to hear that, and he has a stupid grin on his face (one that mirrors the grin Sparrow can't fight back either) as he tells Sparrow she can choose first. after meeting the three Pokemon in the briefcase (a Turtwig, a Chimchar and a Piplup), she picks the Piplup with an overwhelming sense of happiness at this precious first meeting. as she holds the Pokeball with her new partner in it to her chest, the boy chooses the Turtwig and the Professor addresses them both again.
he congratulates them on their excellent choices (though she thinks there's no such thing as a bad choice when it comes to Pokemon), and explains that the Pokemon in their care are unfamiliar with the world at large, just like their new Trainers, so he hopes that they'll do well together (learn together and grow together, become stronger and wiser together). he invites them to visit his lab in Sandgem if they run into any trouble before he leaves with the beret boy following behind him.
as they watch him walk away, the blond boy comments that Professor Rowan is actually very nice, much different from the stern and scary person he seems to be on TV.
the only name that isn't blurred out is Professor Rowan's.
effects: ● will be more cautious before doing something she knows is dangerous
● increased diligence in caring for the team Pokemon
● this well respected professor saw something in us that impressed him!! self-confidence boost.
● best friends do stupid stuff together so neither has to do it alone.

content: You are in Canalave City during the morning, entering a small house near the docks (without knocking, or knowing the inhabitants, which feels like a normal thing to do). In the house, on a makeshift bed on the ground level, a small boy lays unconscious while his mother hovers over him. When you approach, you over hear him mutter "Dar... Dark... is watching... me..." while he twists and thrashes in his sleep. 'Is he having a nightmare?' You wonder as you ask the mother what's wrong.
"I never thought our boy would fall into this endless nightmare." She says, with dark circles under her eyes. "It's happened in the past in Canalave... There were people who never woke up from their nightmares... ...That is, until they were awoken using something called the Lunar Wing. My husband went to find a Lunar Wing on Fullmoon Island, but he failed. Does it take a Trainer to do that? We feel so frustrated by this..." She turns her attention back to her son and you promptly rush out the door to find the father.
As luck would have it, you don't have to go far; The man is a Sailor standing on the docks, in front of a large ship. He looks like he hasn't slept in days but a faint glimmer of hope enters his eyes when you introduce yourself and ask him to take you to Fullmoon Island. "...You... You're going to Fullmoon Island for us?" He sounds like he can barely believe it. You simply say yes and he lights up. "We're both counting on you! Only you can awaken my son from his awful nightmare... Please, I need the Lunar Wing from Fullmoon Island to awaken him! I went, but I failed to find it... Anchors aweigh!" You don't mind him telling you the same story his wife did at all, and follow him onto his boat. He casts off immediately and you leave through Canalave's famous canal.
It takes a couple hours to reach the island even at top speed, longer than it would take by flight, and the sun is high in the sky when Eldritch (the sailor, who introduced himself during the boat trip) carefully steers his ship into a small spot just large enough to fit his boat and helps you hop onto the stairs nearby. You waste no time in running up the stairs and across the island, through the trees until you reach a shaded clearing. little light shines through the treetops, but there's enough to notice a strange puddle shaped like a crescent moon, along with a beautiful Pokemon that floats serenely in the air. You walk up to her (you're not sure why you think the Pokemon is a girl, but it feels like its right) and reach out to touch her-
And the moment your fingers brush against her feathers, she floats higher and higher and higher up in the air before flying away, leaving a sparkling something on the ground where she had been just moments before. You pick it up and see its a beautiful feather - the Lunar Wing you came here for. You look up and yell "Thank you!" before spinning on your heel and racing through the trees again until you reach Eldritch.
"That Pokemon you met was the Lunar Pokemon... I've heard tales of it flying from place to place throughout Sinnoh." He says in awe, looking in the direction that Pokemon flew off for a few seconds longer before looking to you and catching sight of the feather in your hand. "Oh! That sparkle... So, that's the Lunar Wing... Thank you... That will wake my son from the nightmare..." He leads you back onto the boat and heads back to Canalave at top speed.
When you reach the city, you don't even wait for the boat to fully stop before leaping off it and onto the dock, and then running to his home. You approach the boy's bed again and your Lunar Wing begins to glow and as the glow grows stronger, the grimace on his face disappears, leaving him peaceful for a few moments before he wakes up. Eldritch bursts through the door a second later and you step to the side to let him check on his son.
"Oh, my gosh! You're awake! Oh, my son..." He sounds near tears, smiling in relief. "I... I don't know what to say..." He turns to face you. "Thank you! We'll never forget you!" He promises before looking back to the little boy. "Seeing you back to normal makes me feel great! I've regained my spirit as a Sailor! Come sail with me later!" He laughs as he heads out the door; maybe to make sure he docked his boat properly in his rush. "Thank you! We can't thank you enough, but thank you!" the mother clasps your hand in hers for a moment.
The boy shivers in his bed and whispers to you, "I couldn't wake up... I saw it... It was a scary dream... It was a dark place... And there was a dark Pokemon..." And then he adds in a louder voice, "But Daddy, Mommy... I could always hear your voices..." You ruffle his hair, glad to have been able to help him, and walk out the door.

content: You walk into a room and step onto the blue panel on the floor; it whirs to life and lifts you up to another level where you see an open doorway at the far end. As you approach it, your heart is racing because this is what you and your Pokemon have been training for for so long and you're finally here and ready to battle Sinnoh's Champion...!
You check on your Pokemon before stepping through the doorway, making sure (for the tenth time, you know) that they're all healthy and their status effects are cured before squaring your shoulders and walking through it with your head held high.
In the new room, a familiar woman is waiting for you and your heart beats faster; She smiles at you as she speaks.
"Have you been keeping well? Thank you for Mt. Coronet. And the Distortion World. I'm truly grateful. Together, you and your Pokémon overcame all the challenges you faced, however difficult. It means that you've triumphed over any personal weaknesses, too. The power you learned... I can feel it emanating from you."
She gives you a look you recognize by now, one full of excitement for the coming battle. "But that's enough talk. Let's get on with why you're here. As the Pokémon League Champion, I accept your challenge!"
With that said, the battle begins and there's never a lull in it; You're both on the attack, both of your Pokemon (she fights with a Spiritomb, a Roserade, a Togekiss, a Lucario, a Milotic and a Garchomp; you fight with an Empoleon (Arlen), a shiny Luxray (Tova), a Togekiss (Esen), a Garchomp (Adelinde), a Glaceon (Patil) and a Spiritomb (Angra)) fighting with everything they've got. You know your Pokemon well enough by now to know they're having as much fun as you are. It's a good thing the Champion's room is so durable, too, with all the attacks flying everywhere (fire and razor sharp leaves, blizzards and torrents of water, electricity and earthquakes, just to name a few things that are used in the battle).
When ███████ is down to her last Pokemon, she seems more excited than ever, declaring "I can't remember the last time I was put in a corner like this!" as she sends out her final partner.
You're even more excited now than you were before; The goal you've been chasing since you began your journey is right there waiting for you, and--
The memory ends right there, before the battle ends.

content: Marley stands to your left, staring at the huge white tablet ahead of you (Professor Oak is there too, of course, but he might as well not be as far as Marley is concerned). She takes a touches your arm so you turn around to face her, tearing your gaze from the Professor and the stone.
In her quiet, level voice, she explains that she doesn't like to talk. Even though she chooses her words carefully, they may still hurt someone by accident, and when she thinks of that she clams up. That's why this Pokemon is so wonderful to her: It conveys gratitude in a nice way, one that can't be misunderstood. With that said, she rushes ahead of you to stand next to the tablet and says it has a strange feeling to it.
You'd be lying if you said that didn't pique your curiosity even more than it already had been and so you follow only a few steps behind and greet the Professor. He tells you what he has learned about the tablet so far (which isn't much, to be honest) before explaining the purpose if the stone: It's meant for a Trainer to write their thoughts after an adventure, after growing as a person. Which is why he asked you for your help: You've done so many things, met so many different humans and Pokemon, and all of those experiences have shaped you into the person you are now. You fit the description perfectly.
So, he continues as he runs a hand along the edge of the tablet, he would like you to sincerely tell him who affected you the most out of all of them. Or, more accurately, who you most want to thank.
The question catches you off guard. Who do you want to thank most? How do you choose between all the people you've ever met? You think of your mother, of your best friend, of your Pokemon who support you through thick and thin, and feel like this is an impossible choice.
It takes you a couple minutes to find your answer, and when you do you hold your head high and tell him you most want to thank your family. You cannot choose between the most precious people in your life, so this is the answer that makes the most sense to you. Family isn't limited to your relatives. Family is made up of people you love and trust and that includes ***** and your team.
You write your answer on the smooth rock with a smile, but the moment you're done a blinding light envelops all of you and leaves you blind for a few seconds.
When the blurs in your vision disappear, you're amazed to see the entire area is now covered with brilliantly coloured flowers. Beside you, Marley gasps
TRIVPOS;
you spend a few minutes pointing out constellations to each other, forgetting half the names and making them up as you go along before he suddenly changes the subject (its normal for him to jump from one topic to another and you've learned to roll with it.
***** asks you if you want to leave Twinleaf some day and see the rest of Sinnoh. you don't even need to think about your answer to that, cheerfully promising him you'll both go on an adventure of your own one day.
he grins so wide it must hurt his cheeks and agrees with you. you'll get your own Pokemon partners someday and become the best Trainers in the region- no, the whole world! so, he continues and points at your face, you better be ready to become a Trainer when he is, or he'll fine you 1000! no wait, 10000! no no wait, 100000! yeah, he'll fine you 100000 if you're late!
you don't laugh even though you kind of want to, instead holding your pinkie finger out. let's make it a promise, you say, that you'll become Trainers together. everyone knows you can't break a pinkie promise, so it will definitely happen. he locks his pinkie with yours and you make the promise. it wouldn't feel right to start any adventure without him there with you, so your promise is earnest and heartfelt.
and it's at that exact moment you nearly fall off the roof, as Gabby abruptly starts squawking "TIME TO GO IN, TIME TO GO IN" at the top of her lungs.
...next time, you're asking for Prissy to come up with you instead. ]

content: The Resort Area always has such a relaxed vibe, you think as you exit the Pokemon Center and stretch your arms above your head. It's kind of surprising when you think about it, given how many Coordinators come here to boast about their Ribbons and Pokemon but then again, most of them spend their time in the Ribbon Syndicate instead of outside. As you start to walk along the road, you're startled out of your thoughts by a man waving at you from up a flight of stairs. You point to yourself to make sure it's you he's waving at and he nods, beckoning you over.
When you jog up the stairs you spot a house behind him, just as the man starts to speak in a stage whisper. "Psst, hey, traveler! Yes, you! I want you to have this Villa!" You stare at him for a few long seconds before he realizes how sketchy that sounds and flails his hands in front of him. "Oh, wait, no, no, no! It's not what you're thinking!" He protests. "This is no scam, see. In fact, you'll be doing me a favor!" You ask him what he means and he seems relieved you're still willing to hear him out. "See, I was given this Villa. But, to be honest, I don't need it, either. So don't say a word. Just nod and this Villa is yours!"
You think on it for a minute. Sure, the set up sounds sketchy, but this guy sounds sincere and earnest and you're curious to see what the Villa looks like up close... You nod in agreement and his face lights up with a grin.
"Whew, that's a load off my mind!" He laughs and scratches the back of his head. "The original owner was from Hoenn, see? The owner collected up all the rare stones of Sinnoh and went back home. I somehow got saddled with this place as if it were some gift. There's no figuring what rich folks will think of next." He shrugs. "Still, I thank you for helping me out. Come with me, will you?"
He turns around and heads for the Villa's front door, so you follow on his heels, noting the Berry patch and mini pool in awe. The outside alone is like a home from a magazine or one of those reality shows... When the two of you reach the door, he gestures to everything around you. "None too shabby, you have to agree. Step inside for a look-see." He opens the door and heads in ahead of you.
The interior is... Absolutely, totally empty. He clears his throat awkwardly and starts talking again. "The original owner's furniture is gone, and I didn't buy any. So, yeah, I know, it's barren. Still, not bad, eh?" This... This is great! There's so much space, so much room to decorate and design and make it just the way you want it without having to move anyone else's stuff out of the way! While you spin around in delight you only half hear everything else he says. "But anyway, I feel kind of bad imposing the place on you for nothing." (Impose, he says, like you wouldn't have said no if you weren't interested in it.) "I'll tell you what, order a table from this order form. That'll do as my thanks to you!"
He pulls a form out of his pocket and you quickly read it. There are a few kinds to choose from, but for now you'll go with something simple and check off a square. A matter of seconds later, one of his Pokemon is flying the form to the business and an hour after that, some workers move the table in; You spend the wait chatting with your new friend (Theo, he says his name is) about Contests and battling and learn and learn he's from Unova and came here to check out Sinnoh battle styles (honestly, what kind of foreigner dumps a house on another foreigner?? how rude).
When the delivery crew (consisting of a man and a Machoke) carry in your table, they set it down very carefully in the exact spot you point to. "Thank you for waiting! I'm delivering your order! We hope you'll keep ordering quality furnishings from us!" The man tips his head politely, and leaves after you thank him for delivering your table so quickly.
Theo chuckles. "The furniture place's service is great. They're real eager for business. Look, they left another order form on the Table they delivered." He points to the table and you glance over your shoulder. Sure enough, there's another form there just waiting to be filled out. "Anyway," he starts again. "I'm finally rid of this Villa thanks to you. Now I can go back to traveling like I always wanted." He promises to send you a postcard when he gets to Johto and heads out the door with a spring in his step.
...Exactly seven seconds later, ***** charges in the door. "Hey, ****! You got yourself a Villa now?" How on earth did he find out in the span of a couple seconds?! He looks around and whistles, ignoring your disbelief. "Woohoo, that's wicked awesome! You must be rich! Gimme something!" You try to tell him someone gave it to you but he, of course, doesn't give you a chance. "Ok, this is what I'm gonna do." (You hope that thing isn't asking to crash on the couch you don't even have yet.) "I'll tell everybody you got a Villa!"
... ... ...
Wait, he's going to do what?! You don't even have anything more than a table in here yet, you can't have visitors! You try to grab him by the scarf to stop him but just miss him. You chase him out the door just in time to see him taking off on his Staraptor. Dammit, there's no way you'll be able to catch him now...
...Well, it looks like you'll have to start decorating even sooner than you thought.
what is learned: ● wow that guy sure did give me a house

content: The Eterna City Gym is just as beautiful as you expected it would be, full of beautiful flowers in full bloom and so brightly lit you would think you were outside if you didn't know better. Next to you, the Gym Leader herself explains how her Gym works (in order to face her, you need to defeat all the other trainers present) and mentions your friend ***** had already come here and told her about you before heading to her spot to await your arrival. You take a minute to marvel at the beauty of the Gym before you step forward to begin your challenge.
The Leader's students are all girls who specialize in Grass type Pokemon, just like their mentor, so you rely on your shiny Luxio Tova instead of Arlen (your Prinplup) to avoid putting him through the type disadvantage; He's not happy about it but he understands. Tova gives each battle her all, enduring Poison and Paralysis until you can use an item to heal the effect. Every battle teaches you something new about Grass types and their moves: They have useful status ailment moves like Stun Spore, Poison Sting and Sleep Powder and can drain their opponent's energy with moves like Leech Seed on top of having straightforward attacks. By the time you reach their Leader, you realize a drawn out battle with her would definitely end in her favor if her Pokemon have ailment moves like her students' and start to plan for a fast win.
With that in mind you give Tova a Cheri Berry to hold onto, in case she gets Paralyzed and switch up your tactics; Taking time to set up for harder hits at a slower pace would risk prolonging the battle, so you'll change it to total offense. Confident your plan will work, you hop up the steps to greet the Master of Vivid Plant Pokemon.
Your talk lasts just a few seconds, both of you eager to see what the other team can do. The battle itself is... hard. Your plan to blitz her works well enough on her Cherrim and Turtwig but her Roserade is her strongest and makes full use of its Stun Spore and Poison Sting. It's a lucky break that the spores miss most of the time and Poison sting only poisons Tova once, really.
In the end you win by a respectable margin and Tova couldn't be happier with herself, prancing in triumphant circles around you. Your own heart is pounding furiously in your chest, a hard and fast 'thump thump thump', and you feel so proud of your Pokemon and yourself. It takes effort to not throw your arms around Tova and hug her until Gardenia finishes congratulating you.
Smiling, she calls you tough and says your Pokemon's strength is a measure of how much you love them, and in recognition of that bond she wants to give you a token along with the Forest Badge you've earned. The gift is TM86, the move Grass Knot (grass snares your opponent and trips them, dealing more damage the heavier they are) and you tuck it away with the rest of your TMs for later.
As Gardenia finishes talking the clock hands behind you move again to form a straight line back to the entrance/exit but before you go you finally fling your arms around Tova's neck and hug her tightly, thanking her for her hard work and laughing.
notes: - Gardenia's Gym has a pretty cute mechanic going on: whenever you beat one of the Trainers there, the clock hands turn to make a path to the next person you need to battle.
- at this point, her team consists of Arlen the Prinplup, Tova the Luxio and an Egg. the only Pokemon to battle in this memory is Tova, since Arlen would get wiped going up against Grass types and the Egg barely moves at all. It's pretty obvious she obtained it recently and that its nowhere near ready to hatch.

It also makes your finger filthy so you wipe it off as you look around.

You go to the one farthest away from you, flipping through the pages until a series of entries catch your eye. They talk about Pokemon named Rotom, and a kid who befriended it. You close the notebook (which you notice now looks old and worn) with care and set it down.
Still... what's something like that doing here of all places...?
NEUPOS;
content: You're making your way through a the maze that is Hearthome Gym, tiptoeing along so you can avoid drawing attention from the Gym's trainers. It specializes in Ghost types, you remember, and it's kind of obvious thanks to the dozens of Duskull lamps that make the walls of the maze.
You battle the Gym trainers when you come across them, to get a good idea of the strategy you should prepare for the Leader. Ghost types are immune to Fighting and Normal type attacks and have an advantage over Psychic types, but are weak to Dark type moves and are vulnerable to Ghost type moves themselves. You don't have a Ghost type with you, so you focus on attacking with Tova (your shiny Luxio); she knows some Dark type moves that will make things easier. You switch for others whenever she looks tired, either Arlen (your Prinplup) or Adelinde (a Gible), the newest addition to your team.
The Gym trainers and their Pokemon give you some trouble with status effects like confusion and burn but you beat them (and are thankful you always have a stockpile of stat clear items).
When you enter the last room, you're standing before Fantina, the Gym Leader and... honestly, you're kind of starstruck. You've seen her and Loony (her Drifloon) in Contests on TV and she's even cooler in person, all confidence and poise.
"Ohohoho!! Finally, you have arrived!" Fantina looks delighted and claps her hands twice. "Since I came to this country, always I try to learn new things. They hold Contests in this city? I say to myself, enfin, I will excel. That's why I dress this way. C'est une performance!" She tells you a bit about herself, peppering another language into her speech (you think it's Kalosian and make a note to check it out later), and strikes a dynamic pose. "Also I study Pokémon very much. I have come to be Gym Leader. And, uh, so it shall be that you challenge me. But I shall win. That's what a Gym Leader does, non?" She winks at you and the battle begins.
She's a strong Trainer with strong Pokemon so you struggle a little in the beginning but keep calm and eventually win with Tova shaking her head to clear away the lingering Confusion. "You are so fantastically strong. I know now why I have lost." You hear Fantina say as you promise to get Tova her favorite for supper tonight before recalling her so she can rest.
Fantina's eye shine with excitement and she gestures in excitement as she speaks. "I am dumbfounded! So very, very strong! You, your Pokémon, so strong!" She points at you dramatically for a moment before turning her hand palm up and offering you a badge. "Your power is admirable! I shall honor it with this Gym Badge!" You accept it and hold it tightly; The Relic Badge is your third one and it brings you one step closer to being able to challenge the League.
"Three Gym Badges..." Fantina murmurs thoughtfully, then steps closer to you. "But you must not forget this. There are many other trainers. Strong Trainers, too. There are many more in Sinnoh. Have patience! You must become stronger, one at a time."
You thank her for her advice and say goodbye, and she points you to the warp panel that will return you to the entrance. You slot the Relic Badge into your Badge Case as you walk to it, and hope you'll get to battle Fantina again sometime.
what is learned: ● who Fantina is
● more about Ghost types
● exactly four words of Kalosian (PokeFrench) but not what the words mean
other notes: ● the Hearthome Gym is honestly pretty creepy/weird but Sparrow doesn't even think of it as creepy.
● Fantina is a performer and it shows; her hair and outfit are bold and attention grabbing and she makes very grand gestures when it'll be most dramatic.

content: You're at the Battleground, a large building with an open space for Pokemon battles. A handful of familiar people (though you don't yet remember where you know them from) are waiting around at the tables and you know they're waiting for a challenge and the excitement of battling these people again puts a spring in your step as you approach a girl with a white bow in her dark hair and greet her.
She looks up from the mug in her hands and you think she looks pleasantly surprised. "...Oh? A battle? With me?" She asks. You grin and nod, saying you came here to see her and battle her. Again, she seems pleasantly surprised and stands up, setting her mug on the table. "...OK. I... won't lose...!"
The next few minutes are a blur of a heated Pokemon battle between her Pokemon (a Ninjask, an Electrode, a Crobat, a Weavile and an Arcanine) and your own (an Empoleon, a Luxray, a Garchomp, a Togekiss and a Spiritomb). It's exhilarating and breathtaking and you're laughing the longer the battle goes on because it's fun, it's the most wonderful thing in the world to get to know someone and their Pokemon better through a battle, and when you catch sight of your opponent's face, you know she's having just as much fun.
When the dust settles, you're the victor and you recall your final battler and promise your team their favorites for lunch before turning your attention to the girl and tell her you had fun battling her today with a smile.
She glances down at her hands for a moment before looking at you again. "...I might like battling with you. ...Just a little. Only a tiny bit." She says and your heart skips a beat to know the feeling is mutual.
...Are you seeing things, or is she blushing?
SIGPOS; iron island adventures with riley
He turns to face you, adjusting his snazzy hat and you kinda stare at him for a couple seconds. "...You are?" He asks in a quiet, calm voice and smiles when you introduce yourself as ****. "OK, you're ****. I'm Riley." He notices your staring but misinterprets it. "I'm a Trainer, yes, and it is a bit odd that I would be training here." You shake your head and tell him you're here to train too; Riley looks surprised for a moment before he smiles again, pleased with your answer. "Anyway, it's always nice to meet another Trainer. Here's a gift." He holds out a disk and you take it, almost dropping it when you realize it's an HM: HM04, Strength, used to move heavy boulders out of the way. Riley mentions what it is and that you'll need Canalave Gym's badge to use it, only to trail off into a chuckle as you promptly pull your badge case out and show him the Mine Badge shining in it. "My bad." He apologizes with another smile and glances at the cave entrance. "I'll be training inside. You can join me if you'd like." He vanishes through the entrance, and you linger where you are long enough to make sure your supplies are in order before you head in yourself.
It's dark in the cave, enough to be annoying but not enough to warrant using Flash. You have to squint for a couple minutes until your eyes adjust and you're surprised to see rusty steel drums and girders still left laying around - it all must have been left behind when the mining operation closed down. You fish a Repel from your bag and spray yourself with it before you start running around and map the place out in your head. This path leads to a dead end, there's a path that's blocked off over there, and the way forward involves a couple sets of makeshift steps... You note anything you can use as a marker and keep moving, battling wild Pokemon and other Trainers alike along the way. You get turned around a couple times, when you misremember the right path, but that's all part of the fun of exploring a new place.
When you reach what you think is the lowest level, Riley is waiting nearby and walks up to you. "****, I'm glad to see you here. If you don't mind, let's team up." He looks around and you do the same, noticing the Pokemon on this level look like they're on edge. "The Pokemon seem to be restless," Riley confirms with a frown. You agree to partner up with him, worried about what wound the Pokemon up like this. "If your Pokemon get hurt, I'll heal them up." He assures you, and the two of you start off.
Things are pretty quiet at first. You run into a few Trainers along the way and double battle them, finding you and Riley make a pretty good team and that your Pokemon get along well with his Lucario. Between battles, the two of you chat and he mentions Byron (the Leader of Canalave Gym) asked him to become a Gym Leader; You're impressed, but Riley turned the offer down out of consideration for Roark, Byron's son. At one point, he wonders if battling a trainer with the same type specialization as you would be like fighting yourself, since it's harder to beat yourself than anyone else. You keep your end the conversations going, telling him about the Gyms you've beaten and how you don't have a specialization since you couldn't imagine only training a certain type. You like him, he's smart
The chatting stops when you spot two Team Galactic Grunts hanging around ahead of you and you groan, "Not them again." Riley looks at you in surprise and then frowns again as he sees the look on your face. He's the first to step up to them, eyes narrowed, and both of them jump like they didn't expect to see anyone here (and they probably didn't). "I get it now." He says as you step up to his side. "You're responsible for agitating the Pokemon. I don't care what good reason you may have," he cuts one Grunt off the moment he opens his mouth. "But I don't want you bringing any trouble into the mine."
The Grunt glowers at both of you. "We're Team Galactic!" He declares. "We'll take all the Pokemon we want! Isn't that right, partner?" He turns to the other Grunt who nods emphatically. "You said it, brother! So that's what we're gonna do. We're abducting all the Pokemon from this rusted-out Iron Island!" The second Grunt puffs up with pride and promptly withers a bit when he notices the furious stares you and Riley are giving him and his friend. You've yet to meet a member of Team Galactic that didn't make you either confused or angry.
"To share in all the joys and all the sorrows..." Riley says quietly, voice full of anger and distain. "That is how all the Trainers and Pokemon live in Sinnoh! I won't allow anyone to defy that code of ethics! Come on, ****! This is one battle we can't lose!" You exchange a look and nod, grabbing your Pokeball as the battle starts.
The Grunts aren't bat at battling, but they're no match for you and Riley, fueled as you are by your anger at their mistreatment of Pokemon. Their teams fall in front of your Arlen and Riley's Lucario and they complain that the two of you and your Pokemon are too tough a combination to defeat as they recall their Pokemon and flee. Once they're out of sight, Riley breathes a sigh of relief and faces you with a wide smile. "Thanks. You really helped me out." You tell him you're glad you could help him defend the Pokemon that live here and your words seem to convince him of something. "Listen, I have a Pokemon Egg here. Would you take it with you?" You're startled by the sudden offer but you nod and say yes with a stammer. "Thanks!" He passes the Egg to you and you carefully hold it in your arms. "I'd like you to show the Pokemon that's inside the Egg all sorts of new places."
You promise you'll take good care of it and he smiles even more. "Spending time with you was very enjoyable. I intend to test my skills in other places from now on. Let's meet again!" You say you'll definitely see him again some day and he chuckles. "Take care on the way out." He tells you, and waves as you step onto the elevator down; You wave back, of course, and run through the rest of the cave with new excitement in your steps and your heart beating quick in your chest.
notes: ● by the time the memory ends, she has one hell of a crush on Riley and it's probably obvious to anyone who sees the memory. she stares at him at first because he's good looking and after battling the Grunts and being given a Pokemon Egg she thinks he's cool and handsome and a good person.
● while she battles exclusively with Arlen, her Empoleon, the rest of her team consists of Tova the Luxray, Esen the Togekiss, Patil the Eevee and Adelinde the Gabite.
● she takes Riley's declaration of sharing joys and sorrows being the way they do things in Sinnoh to heart and thinks he's right! the philosophy behind it resonates with her, sorta.

content: You're participating in a Contest with your Drapion, Adoncia! There's a dress up segment where you dress her up in cute accessories, a dancing segment (which is exactly what it sounds like) and an acting segment where Pokemon show off their moves!
You put your heart into picking the right accessories, cuing her for the right dance steps and choosing the best moves to use to showcase Adoncia's coolness to the judges (Jordan, Dexter and Keira).
There are spotlights, ridiculously dangerous looking moves being used and fired off into the air in front of the audience and judges for display and so much cheering and clapping it's almost deafening.
When all three parts are over, the judges announce the winners, starting from last place. You hold your breath and Adoncia skitters nervously beside you until the very second you're declared the winning pair.
Confetti rains down and the spotlight focuses on you both with the crowd going absolutely crazy but you honestly don't notice it much at first - You're too busy hugging Adoncia, arms around her long neck as she hisses happily. You pull yourself back onto your feet after a minute, dusting your knees off and accept the prize Ribbon from Dexter before turning to the crowd to wave with Adoncia.
notes: ● this is a Pokemon Contest! it takes place in a big ass building solely for Contests. Trainers who participate in Contests are called Coordinators! There are five kinds of Contests, this one was a Cool Contest.
● in Contests, focus is on the Pokemon! Coordinators guide the Pokemon to show their full appeal and avoid stealing the spotlight themselves, and they do dress up and look good so they don't get attention in a bad way.
● Dawn is wearing a really cute dress so she looks the part of a Coordinator.
● during the dancing segment, she is absolutely dancing along as her cues to Adoncia. it's very cute and she has a lot of fun.
● Info on Adoncia: Drapion, female, Lonely nature. moves: Cross Poison (poison type, cool); Payback (dark type, cool); Iron Tail (steel type, cool); Dark Pulse (dark type, cool). she's a bit shy but also loves being on stage! she's pretty good at battling too but likes performing more, so she takes part in Contests now instead.

contents: You reach Celestic Town just as the sun starts to set, casting a warm red light over everything. It's a small, rustic place with a Pokemon Center, a privately run shop in place of a PokeMart, and an ancient shrine and ruins that are as old as the town itself.
You greet an old woman as you head for the stairs only to pause when she says "There's an odd spaceman in front of the ruins. There isn't anything there, but that only seemed to make get him angry. He's saying he'll blow up the town with a bomb... The nerve of it all... If only I were younger, I'd punish that spaceman with my Pokemon..."
You pale and almost trip down the steps in your hurry to get to the ruins. Spaceman can only mean Team Galactic is causing trouble again, and you don't doubt for a moment those guys are stupid and crazy enough to set off a bomb in the middle of a town so you have to find them and stop them before someone gets seriously hurt.
The grunt in front of the ruins starts talking the moment you run up to him. "This town is insignificant! There's nothing of value here. It doesn't need to exist, so I'll blow it up with a Galactic Bomb!" ...You cannot believe how dangerously stupid this guy is. "If you try to mess with me, I'll shut you down with a Pokemon battle. So, what's it going to be? Are you going to mess with me?"
"Bring it!" You snap, already snagging a Pokeball from your pocket; there's no way you'll just walk away and let this idiot destroy this town!
"You dare to oppose Team Galactic?" He sneers. "That means you're taking on the world... No, the universe, even!"
You and your Pokemon wipe the floor with him in the following battle, of course. Team Galactic grunts always talk big, but they can never follow through.
"Too much to handle..." The grunt mutters, staring at you with wide eyes. "I can't do anything here... This place is nothing! I'll happily be rid of this place!" He runs away from you once he stops talking and you breath a sigh of relief.
As you administer Potions to your team, the old woman walks down the stairs and over to you. "Oh, you were magnificent! Aren't you quite the Trainer? As the elder of Celestic Town, I give you my thanks." She pats you on the hand but pauses when she catches sight of something in your bag. "Oh? That Old Charm... May I see that, dear?" You have no reason to refuse, so you pull it out and pass it over and mention you got it from ******* to bring here. She blinks in surprise.
"... What's that? You say ******* entrusted you with it to deliver to me? That *******... She's my granddaughter." She explains with a fond chuckle. "This charm is something made in Celestic Town long, long ago. It was made in honor of a mythical deity said to have created Sinnoh. These Old Charms are still discovered now and then..." The elder slips the charm into her pocket and ushers you toward the entrance to the ruins. "Since you're in Celestic Town, why not look around inside the ruins?"
You dash in and look around in awe. The ruins are the size of a cave, but they have a distinctly man made (or Pokemon made) feeling to them, and on the farthest wall you can see a mural of some kind that you immediately head for.
The painting is obviously ancient and depict three strange things forming a triangle with a shining sphere in the middle of it... You can't understand what it means. Are those things Pokemon? What is the sphere in the middle? Maybe the Canalave library has something on this... While you think, the town elder quietly walks up beside you with a knowing smile.
"The cave painting's meaning seems to be this... There existed beings... Beings so powerful, they were considered deities at the time. There were three Pokemon with power to match either being. The three kept balance with either being, as if they formed a pyramid. It's an ancient legend of Sinnoh that is still told in Celestic." You listen to her in awe at how well she knows the story and open your mouth to ask her some questions-
"I would like to know more about that legend, if you will."
A man's voice echoes in the cave, one you've heard before. You and the elder both turn around to face the newcomer. "You might you be...?" She eyes him as he approaches the both of you and you... you recognize him; you've met him a couple times before. He has something to do with Team Galactic, but you've never spoken with him long enough to know what that something is.
He stops in front of the elder and folds his hands behind his back. "My name is *****. I want to put an end to pointless strife and hostility. I am seeking the power to create the ideal world. Thus, I want you to answer." His gaze strays to the painting behind you. "The world today can't change because the three Pokémon keep it in balance. Is that what you are saying?"
The elder frowns and shakes her head. "I wouldn't know. I do know the world is in balance. I'm quite satisfied with the world the way it is." Her voice hardens and its suddenly very clear why she is the town elder: she won't be intimidated by anyone. "I'm not interested in your question."
The man slowly looks to the elder again, expression so neutral it unnerves you. "..Plead ignorance, will you? What a pointless attitude. You fail to appreciate that the world is incomplete. I will change the world." He points to the mural. "As the first step, I will destroy this cave painting that you've protected all these years. A new legend of a new world will take its place. Am I wrong? If you feel that way, challenge me."
No way. Absolutely not. Your hands tighten into fists and you step forward with a Pokeball in hand. The challenge is clear and he certainly takes notice of it, looking straight at you for the first time since he arrived.
"...I know you, Trainer. We've met at Mt. Coronet. Why would to protect this incomplete world?" ***** shakes his head and retrieves a Pokeball of his own. "As the boss of Team Galactic, I will show you the error of your ways." ...You can't say you're surprised he's the leader. Compared to the grunts, he seems to be on an entirely different level... Even higher than the Commanders you've met before.
The following battle is harder than the battle with the grunt. His team is made up of similar Pokemon to the rest of Team Galactic, but they're better trained and they're stronger. You still beat him, of course, even though you spend the battle trying to make sure the ruins aren't damaged by anything but its not such a smooth victory. If your Pokemon weren't as strong as they are, you think you might have lost.
"Impressive. Your prowess is notable." ***** looks at you with new respect as his last Pokemon is called back to rest in its Pokeball. "...Remarkable." He murmurs as he looks back to the elder. "But, Elder, your attitude told me what I needed to know. If the beings of time and space are brought together, they can't be stopped..."
He leaves immediately, leaving you and the elder alone with the mural once again. She clucks her tongue and shakes her head. "Such a strange, strange man. Spouting nonsense. The time and space of Sinnoh are filled with the memories and thoughts of countless people and Pokemon. This is a wonderful world. What need is there to change it?" You agree with her. The world is full of so many amazing things that it could never be incomplete. Whatever scheme he's got for the Pokemon of time and space, whatever change he wants to make, it would never improve the world. Not with his methods.
The elder gives you HM03, saying it used to belong to ******* but she doesn't use it anymore, pats your arm lightly and excuses herself.
You look up at the painting once more, and can't help but feel like something big is going to happen very, very soon.

content: It's bright and sunny, perfect for your first visit to Jubilife City. It's not very far from Twinleaf, but whenever you and your mom had gone on a vacation you had gone to Sunyshore instead... You look all around you as you follow ----- down the street. The Trainers' School is across the street from the Pokemon Center (you make a note to visit it later and see if any of the lessons look interesting) and Sinnoh's Global Terminal stands tall and proud, its pink and green neon lights still shining brightly in the middle of the day. You're so distracted by your surroundings that you don't notice when ----- stops walking and walk right into him. He doesn't even notice. "That man... What's he doing?"
You peek over his shoulder to see who has gotten his attention: A man in a brown trenchcoat who seems to be... hiding behind a streetlamp. The strange man glances around before darting across the street! To... another streetlamp... You nudge ----- forward so you can ask what's going on just as the man starts to dash across the street again.
"Uh, excuse..." ----- begins before the man jolts and stares at you both with wide and impressed eyes.
"WHAAAT?!" The man shouts, and then quiets himself. "...How did you know? How did you unmask me as a member of the International Police?!"
You exchange a look with your friend, both of you utterly confused. You haven't unmasked anyone yet!
----- scratches the back of his head. "Huh? What? Are you kidding? I was just making small talk..." He looks at you for back up and you nod firmly.
The shady man stares at you both intently for an awkwardly long moment before he chuckles. "...Heh. You claim you were only making conversation, do you? But, I know better not to believe that." He shakes his head with an amused (and still impressed) smile. "You recognized right away that I was someone extraordinary. That is why you spoke to me, is it not? Your power of observation is fearsome! Quite admirable, you are!" He point at the two of you dramatically while you exchange another confused look. All ----- said was 'excuse'...
"Now that my cover has been blown, let me introduce myself." He pauses dramatically. "I am a globe-trotting elite of the International Police. My name... Ah, no. I shall inform you only of my code name. My code name, it is Looker. It is what they all call me." You and ----- introduce yourselves almost automatically, out of politeness, and he nods again. "Incidentally, is the saying, 'Don't be a thief!' familiar to you?"
You hesitate for a second (what if that's a secret codeword?? something like Interpol definitely uses codewords!) but confirm that you've heard it; Mom has told you as much several times over the years.
Looker looks satisfied and nods solemnly. "Yes, that is correct. Taking what belongs to others is wrong. Unfortunately, there are apparently those who do not heed those words. In Sinnoh, in fact, there are criminals stealing the Pokémon of others. I have, therefore, been on the lookout for characters arousing my suspicion." You start; Pokemon kidnappers? In Sinnoh? Looker continues on as he rummages in his trenchcoat's massive pockets. "Incidentally, you are Trainers, yes? Perhaps you can make use of this? That Vs. Recorder, it is a nifty device for recording a match. I obtained it because it is quite popular these days. But myself, I do not do Pokémon battling very often. It will be in better hands with you." He offers you a hand sized device, which you take and immediately start inspecting.
As ----- joins you in checking the Vs. Recorder, Looker clears his throat conspicuously and only stops when you both look back at him. "Also, I have a request. If you were to see me again, I ask that you not talk to me, for I am on duty. ...Actually, yes, yes, you may speak to me. You must. Not because I am lonely, no, no! You must inform me of bad guys! You must inform me of any happenings!"
...He's definitely lonely, you think as he tries to pretend otherwise and sprints back to his original lamppost, and then down the street until he ducks into an alley and disappears from your sight.
You fall silent for a very long, very awkward minute before ----- lets out a long whistle and adjusts his beret. "...Working for the International Police sounds hard." He says, and you agree, slipping the VS. Recorder into your bag.
what is learned: - what vs. recorders are!
- what a Trainers' School is, along with the fact she hasn't been to it before.
- what the Global Terminal is.
- that Jubilife City is fairly close to Twinleaf (her hometown), while Sunyshore is pretty far away.
- JUBILIFE IS A REALLY DAMN BIG CITY. (i personally cannot believe the cities/towns in the games are actually that tiny and go with 'programming constraints' as a reason for them being... so small... pls picture Jubilife as an Actual Huge City, since it's the biggest one in Pt.)
- LOOKER IS REALLY WEIRD AND SHADY but does seem harmless and overdramatic rather than creepy or unsettling.

It feels strange just standing near it and the towering, broken pillars nearby are warping and bending and they were definitely not doing that five minutes ago. You take half a step forward but stop as ******* runs up behind you with a shout of "No...!" and stares at the portal in alarm.
The moment the word leaves her mouth, the three bright lights that had been circling overhead descend and pass through the hole. First yellow, then blue, and when the pink one reaches the ground it pauses and changes course to hover beside you for a moment, then slips between the two of you; You reach out, fingers just brushing against it before it returns to its true form - Mesprit. It beckons to you before chasing the other lights through the portal.
Without missing a beat, ******* turns to face you, breathless from running. "I'm sorry I took so long." She apologizes. "I think I finally found the answer from studying the myths. When this world was made, Dialga and Palkia appeared. Apparently, there was one more Pokémon that appeared at the same time. A Pokémon with as much power as Dialga and Palkia... But also one whose name was never to be spoken--Giratina! It's said to lurk in another world... A world on the opposite side of ours..."
Giratina - That must have been the shadowy Pokemon that appeared and dragged ***** off! The portal must lead to its world... You glance to it and catch sight of something that looks like land. ******* notices where you're looking and nods grimly. "That's what the shadow was. It must have been Giratina." She confirms and looks behind the both of you at Jupiter and Mars for a second. You glance back as well and see that both of them look too bitterly exhausted to be a threat right now.
You and ******* turn back to the distortion. She taps her foot against the ground and stares into it. "The pillars are distorting... It's because of that portal. It's joined us to the other world. If it's not closed, the distortion will spread to Sinnoh and beyond... Our world will be destroyed..." You suck in a sharp breath; You believe her. She wouldn't make something like this up.
She turns to face you once more with urgency in her expression. "Are you ready? We have to chase *****!" You nod and she almost smiles. "We have to hurry!"
With that, the two of you... Well, you take a running jump into the portal. You fall down and down and down with a roaring in your ears and vibrant blues flashing before your eyes.
what is learned: ● Giratina lives (lived?) in another world entirely
● apparently its world and her world weren't supposed to have a gateway like that?
● APPARENTLY THE PORTAL GIRATINA MADE WILL DESTROY THE WORLD IF THEY CAN'T CLOSE IT
● also giratina kidnapped Cyrus. but he honestly deserved some kidnapping.
● BUT EVERYTHING IS OK BECAUSE SHE AND BATTLING SENPAI ARE GOING TO FIX EVERYTHING
● SOMEHOW

You almost backpedal behind the corner again but spot a familiar man lurking at the end of the hall. With quiet, careful steps you start to walk up behind him.
"Psst! Here. Over here." He notices you and speaks in a hoarse whisper, beckoning you over. "This gathering of the Team Galactic... What is the meaning of it?" You shake your head and quietly tell him you don't have any idea. None of the people you battled on the way here had said anything about a meeting.
You step up beside him just as the lights dim. The two of you exchange a look; You'll find out what this is about soon enough.
You recognize the man who walks out onto the upper floor that overlooks the meeting room. He looks composed and calm like he has every time you've seen him before but... Something is different about him. You don't have any time to figure out what before the assembled Grunts start cheering and clapping for him.
He holds his hands up to silence the applause before he starts to speak. "Fellow members of Team Galactic! Hear me! My name, as I appear to you today, is -----. This world of ours is a crude one. In a word, it is incomplete. It has been, and always will be, a struggle to survive in this world. We humans and Pokémon are likewise incomplete. Because we are all so lacking, we fight, we maim... It is ugly." -----'s words make you frown. He's still going on about the world being incomplete... You suppose it was too much to ask that he'd reconsider after you beat him before.
"I hate the incompleteness. That we are all incomplete, I hate it with my entire body and being." His audience is silent, listening to him with rapt attention as he pauses to scan the crowd, and you have to remind yourself that he can't spot you or Looker to keep yourself from backing up. "The world should be complete. The world must change. Then, who will change it? Me, Cyrus. And Team Galactic. Yes, all of you. Together we pored over myths and exposed their secrets. Together we captured legendary Pokémon." His voice grows louder, more passionate. "And now, Team Galactic has obtained the energy to change the world! The power of dreams is within our grasp! Understand it, fellow members! My long-held dreamworld is on the verge of becoming reality. All those headed to Mt. Coronet, and those who remain here... Though our missions may differ, our hearts beat as one. Let there be glory for Team Galactic!"
The grunts explode into cheers and shouts of support (you hear someone shout "Master ----- is the greatest!" over the din) while -----, having finished his speech, spins on his heel and leaves. The telltale chime of a warp pad echoes out as the grunts start to disperse through the pad on the other end of the room and you let out a breath you didn't know you had been holding in.
"...Whew." Looker sighs, leaning against the wall. "So, that was -----, the boss of the Team Galactic. Quite the performance, no? Mesmerizing for one of only 27 years old. ...But to make a world for Team Galactic and none other?" He shakes his head. "It is preposterous. So much so that it makes my head spin. A new world? What is that? And what is this incomplete world?" He straightens up and fixes the collar of his trench coat. "Very well. To investigate such matters is the job of the International Police. Of which I am a member in good stead. And it is my job, therefore. We shall part ways here. Take extra care, my friend!" Looker pats you on the shoulder with a friendly smile and exits the room the way you came in, leaving you free to check out what's waiting ahead.
Maybe you'll ruin into ----- and get some answers, if you're lucky.
what is learned: ● Looker is also investigating Team Galactic! he also makes no attempt to make her leave or stop her investigation, presumably because he knows she's capable of beating the grunts in a Pokemon battle.
● Galactic Grunts are so dumb. they're really dumb, none of them even noticed Looker and Sparrow standing a couple feet away.
● Cyrus is... basically a politician. he's charismatic and good at public speaking, along with saying what the Grunts want to hear. Sparrow thinks he's full of garbage and doesn't know why anyone buys this crap :T
TRIVNEU;
The trip takes a while even by flight but it's a nice day so neither of you mind it (in all honesty, you think Alexis is excited to have a chance to show how strong he is) and you spend the trip pointing out things that are far, far below you both to pass the time. ...Your arm does get tired after a while, though, so you switch to your other hand (and Alexis' other leg).
notes: ● a visual representation of what that flight looked like, more or less.
● Starly are a foot big. and it carries her halfway across the region with no difficulty at all, while her only grip on it is its leg.
● THEY ARE REALLY FAR UP. far enough that when she looks down houses are very small and people look very tiny.
● all in all this is probably nightmarishly dangerous to anyone who isn't from Pokeworld and she isn't even concerned for a moment.
● THANK YOU NINTENDO FOR THIS CANON IMAGE OF USING A SMALL BIRD TO FLY.

content: In this memory, you are eight years old and watching your father double check his bag for all the neccessities. You're not happy, nearly in tears, and you sniffle into your scarf as Dad releases his Flygon. He told you and Mom two weeks ago that he's leaving (again), going to Hoenn to train and that wouldn't be bad on its own but... this time, he said, he won't be coming back. He doesn't want to be tied down here, to have to settle down when he wants to travel more. Mom has barely spoken to him since, (even now she won't see him off), and you're upset too. Why does he want to leave you forever?
Setting his bag down at his Flygon's feet, Dad pats her on the head before looking over to you. His smile softens and he walks over to you, reaching out to ruffle your hair; You shove his hand off your head, too upset to accept his usual affection. His smile falters. "Princess," he says, "I know you're upset, but I promise, I'll write you all the time and call you when I can."
You shake your head and stomp your foot. "But you won't come home!" You don't want letters or phone calls instead of visits, you want to see him!
He tries again, scratching the bad of his head. "You- You don't need me around, you've got your mom here!"
You realize you're crying but don't know when you started and turn around, fleeing into the house while he calls after you; You ignore him and slam your bedroom door shut. You don't want to hear any more excuses, and you don't want to watch him leave you behind either.
You stay in your room until its time for dinner, hugging your Clefairy doll tightly and wondering why you couldn't convince him to stay.

content: Its a pleasantly cold evening and you're spending it trekking through deep snow (usually higher than your knees and sometimes deep enough you sink in chest deep) on your way to Lake Acuity. After a half hour or so, you spot the sign marking the way to the lake. You size up the steep rock wall next to the sign and notice a straight line up that seems much rougher than the rest of the wall. Ah, that means the only way to the lake is using Rock Climb to get up there... You pull a Poke ball from your coat pocket and release Jurian. His clawed feet dig into the rock before he can slip into the snow and he shifts to knock the snow from his tail before you hop onto his back and he roars, charging up the rock wall in a flurry of snow and dirt.
When you reach the top, you jump off and land in the snow while Jurian teeters on the edge of the rocks; he's not fond of the cold, even if it can't hurt him, so you recall him right after thanking him for the lift and pick your way through the trees to the lake. As you walk, you hum some song under your breath and wonder if ***** is still here. You'd like to see him again, catch up with each other and maybe have a battle... Maybe he'd even try to fine you again for being so late.
You make it through the trees quickly and spot ***** at the edge of the lake, but he's on his knees in the snow and... Oh no. Your stomach drops as you recognize the woman standing in front of him. She's Jupiter, one of the Team Galactic members you met before, and the nasty smile on her face can't mean anything good.
"You're not getting away with this, Team Galactic!" ***** shouts, pulling himself to his feet, startling you from your thoughts.
Jupiter smirks. "Oh? Are you finished already? Your Pokémon aren't bad, but you're laughably weak. You honestly thought you could save the Pokémon of the lake? And become the Pokémon Champion? Dream on, little kid." Your blood starts to boil as he flinches back; How dare she make fun of him, after how hard he works as a trainer?! Jupiter dusts some snow off her shoulder, still oblivious to your presense. "But, eww, it's so cold here. Let's go back to the Veilstone HQ." She brushes past him like he's not even there and strides through the snow with a spring in her step.
As she reaches the trees, she notices you staring at her with your hands in tight fists and a furious, cold glare on your face and stops next to you. "Oh? Don't I know you?" She sizes you up thoughtfully and mutters "We met in Eterna City." before straightening up with a haughty look on her face. "Listen. Team Galactic is going to do something huge for everyone's sake. That's why you should keep out of Team Galactic's way. Don't come whining about poor Pokémon and other trivial junk like that. Don't waste your time coming to our HQ in Veilstone. Now if you'll excuse me." She turns on her heel and leaves, quickly disappearing into the trees.
You want to chase after her and give her something to whine about, but... No, she can wait. You need to check on *****. The entire lake feels too quiet as you hurry to his side and reach out to touch his arm. "*****? Are you...?" You don't bother asking if he's okay once you see the look on his face.
"... ..." He pulls his arm away from you and his eyes look shiny with tears. "Yeah, that's right! I couldn't do anything against Team Galactic!" His voice cracks and he turns away to face the lake again, falling silent for a long moment as he stares into the cold, clear water. You stay quiet, because when something is bothering him, it has always been best to let him get it out of his system without interrupting. "That Pokemon called Uxie... It was suffering..." In a flash, he spins around to look you in the eyes. "I'm going to get tougher..." He says firmly and rubs his face with his sleeve. "It's not about winning or losing... That's not good enough... I have to be stronger... It's not enough to just want to be the most powerful Trainer ever... It takes honest effort... And a determined heart." You can tell he's still hurting, that his loss to Jupiter isn't something he can just bounce back from, but you can see new resolve in his eyes.
He bumps his shoulder into yours with a small smile before he leaves the lake as well and waves over his shoulder when you yell "Good luck!" after him.
You look out over the lake for a few long minutes, thinking about ***** and Jupiter and Uxie, the mysterious Pokemon who lived here before you smack your cheeks twice and spin on your heel. It's time to pay Team Galatic a visit at the Veilstone HQ.
what is learned: ● team galactic sucks and their headquarters is in Veilstone, though they were doing something in Eterna (which is how she knows Jupiter).
● they attacked the three lakes to get to their mysterious pokemon and it looks like they succeeded with at least one.
● the blonde guy is her childhood friend and rival from earlier memories, and she hadn't seen him this shaken in a long time.
● JUPITER IS A PATRONIZING ASSHOLE AND SHE WANTS TO FIGHT HER.
● team galactic thinks everything they do is justified since they think they're doing something for everyone's good.
● Uxie is the Pokemon that lives in Lake Acuity, so that means there's a mysterious Pokemon in Lake Valor and Lake Verity too. A trinity...?
● the Pokemon who carried her to the top of the rock wall was Jurian, her male Rampardos. Rock type with a Brave nature, good perseverance, and the ability Mold Breaker. knows Rock Climb, Ancient Power, Zen Headbutt, and Rock Polish.

content: The world spins around you as the warp panel teleports you to another room. It's not as disorienting now that you're used to it, and you only stumble once as you regain your bearings and look around you. Spotting an item on the floor, you collect it and pocket it when you realize its a Full Restore (honestly, how does anyone, even a Grunt, drop something so useful?), then take a good look at your surroundings.
This floor, like most of the others, has a cold, impersonal feeling to it, though that is only a passing thought when you spot the tanks. A chill runs down your spine and you wonder if you even want to know just what is suspended the green liquid even as you approach the anxious, pacing Researcher who stands just a few feet away from you. You don't even have a chance to say anything before he starts talking. "I feel awful about what we did..." He begins, wringing his hands. "This experiment went too far... I'm not sure if I can stomach what Master ***** has planned..."
Those words only confirm your fears and you bolt down the hall as fast as you can go, running between the rows of tanks until you run into a woman right where the hall changes directions. She gags and pulls away from you when you ask if she's feeling alright. "Urff... I feel too sickened to say anything..." She covers her mouth with her hands. "But that thing we made... What is it going to be used for?" The scientist turns away from you, retching, and it's all you can do to not be sick yourself. If whatever happened her was so terrible that the people who worked on it are horrified, then things are worse than you had thought.
You start running again and narrowly miss running into the doorframe as you charge through... Only to bring up short when you realize what, exactly, is in this new room.
Mesprit, Azelf and Uxie are trapped inside machines, barely able to move. You forget to breathe for a minute as you process the sight and before you know it, your feet have carried you straight to Uxie, then Azelf, and then Mesprit; their ways of showing it are all different (Uxie has its eyes shut tight, Azelf is shuddering, and Mesprit's tails twitch) but it's clear they're all suffering through terrible pain.
How could anyone do this? You can't understand. You knew Team Galactic was crazy and ruthless but never in your wildest dreams would you have thought they were capable of something like this...! Out of the corner of your eye, you spot two men standing at a computer in the middle of the room and your horror quickly shifts to raw fury. They're just standing there like the pain these Pokemon are going through means nothing!
You storm up to them just in time to catch the tail end of their conversation.
"Fuhyahya! Those Pokémon of the lakes, where do you suppose they would go?" The older man laughs and the younger man, Saturn (you've met him before, battled him before) turns to look at him. "What are you trying to say?" Saturn sounds wary, cautious in contrast to the old man's amused and sarcastic tone.
"Nothing. Pay it no heed." He waves his hand dismissively. "A new world isn't overly interesting. What of it? If ***** is right, then Team Galactic will rule that new world. That's when it will be interesting. A chance to enjoy its sweets. I surely hope that our visionary ***** realizes his dream. I look forward to whatever our beloved leader has planned atop Mt. Coronet."
Saturn scoffs and looks away like the old man disgusts him. "Gramps. Our boss can do without your kind of moral support."
You've heard enough, so you reach out and grab Saturn's arm and yank on it, making him whirl around to look at you. It takes him a couple seconds but he recognizes you and starts to look confused. "You... You came all the way here just to save some Pokémon? ...Though it's nothing new, I can't say I understand our boss... Why would he let a kid like you come and go freely...? We, Team Galactic, take all that we need, and eliminate what we do not." So ***** is an enigma even to his own Commanders? It's not a surprise, when you think about it. Saturn looks confident as he pulls a Poke Ball from his belt. "But anyway. You've taken the trouble to come. Let me welcome you! Consider it payback for your insulting me at the lake."
In the following battle you curbstomp Saturn's team with ease, holding nothing back because you don't have time for this, you want him out of your way so you can free the three Pokemon—
"You're tough, kid! But, I still pity the likes of you." Saturn admits as his Toxicroak topples to the floor and then scowls. "...Gah! What makes you so tough? Fine... do whatever you want with those three Pokémon. Press the button on that machine to set them free." Begrudgingly, he steps aside so you can access the panel and you outright lunge forward to slam your hand down on the button.
The steady thrumming of the prisons cease as their power is cut off, the barriers holding the lake trio in disappearing in a heartbeat. The freed Pokemon slowly float out and vanish. The tension in your body fades away and is replaced with sheer relief.
"What were you doing here?" You ask Saturn. No, not ask, you demand an answer and its clear from your voice, clear and commanding in a way you rarely speak outside of a battle.
He meets your gaze reluctantly. "Our boss crafted a Red Chain from crystals he took from the three Pokémon. That Red Chain is what he needed to shackle something on Mt. Coronet. It's also apparently needed for creating something. But that's all I know. Who knows what he's planning to do up there." He brushes past you and leaves in a hurry as you stand rooted in place from shock.
"You... You..." You're at a loss for words. No wonder the scientists outside are so horrified and full of guilt!
The old man hasn't moved from his spot since you started talking to Saturn though you had completely forgotten about him; You only remember his presence when he starts to mutter. "Humph. Saturn and even ****** fall to a mere child... Team Galactic's state of affairs is worrying... That plan of *****'s atop Mt. Coronet, too... Who knows if it will work. ...Hmm. Perhaps another option needs to be considered. One befitting the genius of Charon!"
...That's right, both ***** and Saturn had mentioned doing something on Mt. Coronet! You had nearly forgotten in your shock over the creation of the Red Chain.
Leaving this horrible laboratory behind, you start running again, this time for the exit. You need to get to the mountain, and fast.
what is learned: ● Team Galactic is stupid, insane, and willing to do horrific things to get what they want
● she now knows what they needed the Lake Trio for: something horrible
● the team's leader is the mastermind behind the abduction and torture of the lake trio, and he wants to create a new world for team galactic to rule(?)
● not even the commanders get what their boss is thinking
● she has met and beaten Saturn before, but this is her first encounter with Charon
effects: ● -50 tolerance for anyone who pointlessly hurts others
● +50 willingness to pick a fight to help someone/something in trouble
● +50 compassion for people/creatures that are suffering

You've checked every other room in this stupid base, so they have to be here... You skid to a stop at an open doorway, behind a balding man you vaguely recognize (he was the one who tried to make Team Galactic return all the Pokemon earlier). In front of him stands a tall lady in tacky clothes, along with a Buneary and a Clefairy. Both Pokemon look scared of the woman and you slip past the man to march right up to the woman.
She looks down at you with an irritated expression. "Eh? Did you want something?" She sneers and you glare right back at her. "How silly of me to even ask. You want to free the Pokémon. Fine! I, Jupiter, will deal with you."
You start battling Jupiter and the man behind you ducks out of the way, as do the kidnapped Pokemon. It's... in all honesty, an easy battle for you. Arlen (now a proud Prinplup) handles both her Zubat and Skuntank effortlessly and Jupiter? Jupiter really doesn't like that, angrily commenting that she lost to a child thanks to her own carelessness.
"Well, aren't you tough...?" She says, half to herself before she hastily composes herself and smiles at you, sweet and condescending. "It's OK, though. Our official Pokémon-statue investigation is finished. Mars has collected energy from the Valley Windworks. We're pretty much finished here. I'll let you in on one little thing."
Jupiter plants a hand on her hip and leans in closer to you, speaking in a stage whisper. "Our boss is researching the myths of ancient Pokémon. With the power of mythical Pokémon, he will become the ruler of Sinnoh... I suggest you keep out of Team Galactic's affairs from now on." A dangerous gleam enters her eyes, one that promises pain if you don't listen; You don't plan on listening. Smirking, she straightens up. "This is your last warning!"
The second she finishes talking, the lights go out for just a second, and when they turn back on, Jupiter is gone. You frown deeply. First the mess at Valley Windworks and now this... You're going to have to be on your guard for more of Team Galactic from now on.
what is learned: - Pokemon theft is Really Bad. she considers it the same as kidnapping.
- JUPITER IS ALWAYS A CONDESCENDING JERK.
- something happened at Valley Windworks, involving another member of Team Galactic named Mars. what that something is, she doesn't remember at this point, but she does know the Windworks is a power plant.
- she's a couple years younger in this memory.

"...So you were already here." Her voice is quiet but firm and ***** strides forward, brushing her to the side and turning to face her once more. "Why do you seek to change the world?" She asks and she sounds frustrated. "If you hate our world you should just go off somewhere alone. Find somewhere where you can live without seeing others."
He scoffs. "Why should I run and hide from the world and have to wait quietly?" He counters, eyes cold. "My aim is to rid our world of the vague and incomplete thing we call spirit. By freeing ourselves of that, our world can be made complete." You scowl; This nonsense again, huh? You honestly doubt that he'll ever understand the importance of spirit, that spirit is what makes everything whole, as sad as the thought is. You're startled from the thought as ***** raises his voice and shouts, "That is my justice! No one can interfere!" With just a glance to *******'s face, you can tell she's as stunned as you are and as you step up she looks at you and says in a dumbfounded voice, "But... That's no justice at all!"
You look up at him next and say his name in a voice that sounds much calmer than you feel. He rounds on you, calm and controlled veneer starting to crack to show his true anger, but you don't flinch or back down. "I won't lose! Not to that shadowy Pokémon! Not in any worthless world!"
The two of you battle then, your Pokemon team against his and despite your skill, it's not an easy battle. His Pokemon fight just as hard as yours do and his rage doesn't cloud his battling skills at all but... You don't doubt for a minute that you'll beat him. The alternative is unacceptable, so your only choice is to win. When his last Pokemon, a Crobat, is on their last legs he seems to unravel even more, shouting at you in disbelieving anger that only grows worse when his Crobat collapses. "I won't accept this!" He rages. "This can't be! Not after all the sacrifices we've made to get this far! What of my new world?! Of my new galaxy?! Was this all a dream to be swept away by your reality?!"
...It's genuinely unnerving when, just seconds after his defeat, he seems to get himself under control again and stares you down. "... Don't think that you can defeat or capture that Pokémon." ***** warns you coldly. "This bizarre world is none other than that Pokemon itself! Capturing it or defeating it will make this world disappear!" A short pause, his eyes locked on yours. "Very well! Do what you will! Rather than repairing the world, you're going to destroy it for me!" He almost laughs, a manic and harsh sound. When he speaks again, his voice is level once more. "Do it. You inherit my legacy."
He pushes you to the side and storms past you, heading back the way you came and deeper into the Distortion World.
You watch him go, feeling a cold weight in your chest. Is he right? Will everything fall apart if you defeat Giratina despite how hard you've tried to save everything...? You turn to *******, hoping for her reassurance...

Roark is flustered and embarrassed that he lost to a Trainer who doesn't even have a single badge, but he accepts his loss gracefully. 'You were strong, and I was weak. you store both your new badge and TM safely in your bag before speaking to Roark again. he tells you that here in Sinnoh, there are seven other Gym Leaders to be found, and that they're all stronger than he is. you're excited by to think there are stronger opponents waiting for you out there, and race toward the door to head to the next Gym... wherever it is. ]

With me?' she asks. you grin and nod, saying you came here to see her and battle her. again, she seems pleasantly surprised and stands up, setting her mug on the table. '...OK. I... won't lose...!'
the next few minutes are a blur of a heated Pokemon battle between her Pokemon (a Ninjask, an Electrode, a Crobat, a Weavile and an Arcanine) and your own (an Empoleon, a Luxray, a Garchomp, a Togekiss and a Spiritomb). it's exhilarating and breathtaking and you're laughing the longer the battle goes on because it's fun, it's the most wonderful thing in the world to get to know someone and their Pokemon better through a battle, and when you catch sight of your opponent's face, you know she's having just as much fun.
when the dust settles, you're the victor and you recall your final battler and promise your team their favorites for lunch before turning your attention to the girl and tell her you had fun battling her today with a smile.
she glances down at her hands for a moment before looking at you again. '...I might like battling with you. ...Just a little. Only a tiny bit.' she says and your heart skips a beat to know the feeling is mutual.
...are you seeing things, or is she blushing? ]
